227

Tesla's supplier CATL is developing a new EV battery without nickel or cobalt.

Xiangfeng Meng, senior supervisor of CATL, said in the Conference of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the new battery will be different from the current NCA, NCM and LFP battery and will not contain nickel or cobalt. Besides, CATL also developed a unique technology that battery cell directly integrated into EV framework.

Currently battery manufacturers such as Panasonic and LG Chemical are all reducing the use of cobalt in NCA or NCM batteries.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is urging miners to produce more nickel last month. The cost of battery still remains a major obstacle to the company's growth.
